Factors We Evaluated
1. User-Friendliness
This was the most important criteria. I wanted a label-maker I could pull out of the box and use immediately without the need to read instructions. I was also looking for the label-making process to be as quick as possible. The time it took each label maker to print a label was very different. The first model took 15 seconds to print, which is quite a while when you are waiting for a small label to print. While the winner model took only 5 seconds to print the exact same two words.
2. Material Design/Quality
I was looking for labels that aren’t too bulky or heavy yet feels nice and sturdy in your hand. The quality of each manufacturer’s tape was equally crucial for me. Some tapes were shiny and smooth, while others were matte or dull. I also wanted to find out if the labels were easy to apply once they were printed, i.e. Could I peel the backing paper off of the labels without difficulty or would it take two tweezers and a flashlight?
3. Many Functions
As I mentioned earlier I prefer a basic label maker. I don’t want fancy templates, and I’m not looking for “fun” fonts. However, I will occasionally need to alter the font size or capitalization. I’d rather make this change without having to go through an entire guide.
