The refillable ink tanks, neatly placed at the front right of the printer, aren’t just a decorative addition: Epson says that by using tanks instead of notoriously expensive cartridges, users can save up to 90 per cent on ink costs, and the tanks can hold the equivalent of 72 cartridges’ worth of ink. Filling them up is easy and satisfying. The resealable, drip-free ink bottles that come in the printer are equipped with heads that can only be used with the right color tank. This means that you won’t have to eat yellow for the remainder of the life of your printer.
The bottle connects to the tank by turning upside down. It will stop automatically once it’s full. There is no need to squeeze. The see-through front to each tank is a vital indicator to know when ink is low however it also adds an extra splash of colour to the sleek black and black design of the printer. Ink is sufficient to print up to 4,500 mono and 7,500 colour pages when the ink has dried.
